"It was part of our initial plan to make the course and especially the jumps progress when the cyclists would gain more confident. You constantly need to through new challenges to your BMX'ers, and this year, we know they will be happy with what we've done." mentions the Atlantic Cycling Centre's Head Coach, Luc Arseneau.
Starting on Wednesday, May 19, the coached evening will start at 6pm (until 8). For more details on these 4 initial sessions, click here. Since Wednesday evenings also coordinates with the Pepsi Cup, we will gladly welcome this event's participants to try out the Subway BMX track.
The track will also be opened on Sunday evenings (from 6 until 7:30pm) where it'll be opened to all (free of charge) to come and try the newest Olympic sport. On May 29, we will also be part of the Dieppe's Children Festival where kids can now register to be part of. More opening times will be published shortly.
The Subway BMX track will also be hosting events during the summer month. The official announcement of those dates will be done very shortly in partnership with Vélo NB.
To access the coaching services and to be able to ride the track at all open times (except Sunday evenings), you must purchase your Subway BMX track membership at the cost of 50$. You may do this on-line by clicking here.

The riders were challenged with many of the new trails that were developed at Dieppe’s St-Anselme Park. The trails were a bit wet and slippery, but we must not forget this it the earliest we ever started this event.
Pascal Sirois took last night’s event. He was followed by Pierre McIntyre and Krista Koval. Sirois will be wearing the Apogée leader’s jersey next Tuesday for stage two of the long 18 week fun battle. His challenge to defend the jersey will now be even greater as his handicap will now be increased.
Last season overall champion, Neil Symington, unfortunately started the season on a sour note, suffering of a punctured tire with a lap to go. In the spirit of this friendly event, he decided to finish the race and collect the last 5 points available. Considering how close the classification was in 2009, those points could be of great value when October rolls around.
Next week’s event (2nd out of 3 cross country events) will again take place in St-Anselme Park at 6:30. On-line registrations are still possible for those hoping to join on this fun, social event. With the special timing system we developed along the years, everyone has a chance to win on any given night!
Photos of last night's event are available here. Thanks to Denis Doucet for those pictures. A facebook page was also created and can be found here.

The course is called "Let's Ride" and we are excited about the potential it has to teach children good safe skills as well as introduce them to the world of organized cycling.
We need two things for this to succeed - community liaison people and course instructors in many communities. Interested? We are looking to you to become involved in this program - your level of involvement could be up to you - from someone who teaches the course to the children in their local school or youth group up to the community learning facilitator ( you would teach others how to give the course).
This course is designed to be self supporting in terms of revenue and course instructors will earn a reasonable income for their time and effort.
The GO NB program has given their backing to this launch and we are excited about the possibilities. We have two opportunities for training to become involved in this program - May 7/8 in Dieppe or May 22/23 at the Atlantic Coaching Symposium in PEI.

During the 2009 season, Charles was heavily involved in with the National Cycling Centre at several levels. Sitting on the Centre’s Corporation as a representative of cycling clubs of the Greater Moncton area, he offered his services to support our Head Coach as a driver during the National Junior Championships.
Back in Dieppe after this long journey, he continued with his hard work in the renovations Velodrome Caisse populaire Dieppe. As soon as the work was completed, he ran many initiation courses (track 101); a task he accomplished successfully. At the end of the season, he took responsibility for organizing the Atlantic Track championships.
During the past few months, even with the snow on the ground, he led the very important task to seek funding the save the Caisse populaire Dieppe Vélodrome in order to host future national track championships once again in Dieppe.
The National Cycling Centre would also like to take this opportunity to thank the many volunteers, without whom, the Centre would not exist as we know it. Weather it’s on from the administrative side, to organizing events, to the hard labour of fixing our facilities, to trail building, all are greatly appreciated from the minutes to the hours offered.
Thanks to all, and congratulations to Charles Cormier for his dedication during the past 12 months. ... Last weekend, seven participants were initiated to para-cycling at the National Cycling Centre – Atlantic Canada in Dieppe. For the occasion, Luc Arseneau, head coach, tagged along Canadian Cycling Association’s Sébastien Travers and Vélo NB’s Sheila Colbourne to initially talk about the sport in a class session on Friday, and then put words into action on Saturday morning.
“It was great to see everyone succeed, and especially to know that everyone liked their first experience with the sport. They all said they wanted to be back, and most importantly, most of them said they had friends who wanted to give it a try as well;” mentions Luc Arseneau.
The next step for this program is to now identify where these participants fit in with the Long Term Athlete Development stages and line them up with a cycling program to fit there needs. Equipment and events are also an important part of the development of the sport in our region. Further research will be done by the Centre and its partners to find specific bikes and Velo NB will be looking at integrating certain events onto its calendar.
Sheila Colbourne, Executive Director of Velo NB was also very pleased with the camp: “This camp really represents a first step, but a huge one. We will now all work together to develop this very important side of our sport.”
Other events will also take place to pursue the development of para-cycling in Atlantic Canada. Namely, a tandem demonstration (for visually impaired) will take place in Charlottetown on May 23rd and some discussion have also started regarding a hand-bike (for tetra and quadriplegics).
For further information, or if you would like to try para-cycling, do not hesitate to contact your National Cycling Centre at 506-877-7809. ... It is very important to maintain this link to our National Cycling Centre has with the Canadian Cycling Association; it provides a better overview of the development plan we are putting forward for cyclists, from beginners to the elite level.”, to comment Arseneau.
"The initiative of the National Center Atlantic fits perfectly into the development program paracycling Canada and we want to support them.", Travers adds. "Such activity represents a lot for the National Para-cycling Program since it allows us to identify new athletes, coaches and staff. Moreover, it is taking this kind of activity that the Centre of Dieppe will become a center for paracycling in Atlantic Canada. "
In addition to providing support in the activities of talent detection and skills practice, Travers will also present the existing development opportunities appearing in the 2010 Para-cycling Program.
